Hello,

I came across an old thread concerning this amazing player. I've had the Inde du Nord vinyl for years - very worn

Anyway the thread mentioned some non-commercial recordings: radio etc - does anyone have any of these and is willing to share?

I know - it is a big ask.... ops:

Here are the two radio broadcasts

India -
http://www.mediafire.com/?24hxeongvjh
with Bageshri and Bhairavi
sound quality mediocre. music quality v good.

The second I have as a pair - supposedly from Radio Amsterdam
(This has also been described as from radio France but it's Amsterdam)

The Bhoopali of some 48 minutes has an announcement which confirms from a concert 5 April 1986 with Vinod Pathak and the last item of the broadcast (I think - if anyone can confirm the opening/closing announcements that would be good) but the other file Latangi 56 mins has no announcement and so it's not for sure it's from the same radio broadcast.

I have posted these at
http://www.mediafire.com/?mw3ow2zg2gz
and
http://www.mediafire.com/?2vneidnwtr4

------------

Footnote - There is a cassette Live in Amsterdam MA 8602 which says the following-
Bhoopali                         25.32
Bageshri surbahar                 19.39
Sindhu Bhairavi duet                 43.03

"Balaram Pathak (sitar and surbahar) and his sons Ashok (sitar) and Vinod (tabla) were recorded during a live performance on April 5th 1986 in the Moses and Aaron Church in Amsterdam."

The Bhoopali is alap only (I believe the same as the radio recording but 2 minutes longer - the radio seems to have chopped the start).
So if the Latangi is also part of the same concert that seems to make the concert pretty long - if anyone has info to help here that would be good.

Yuletide comes early!

Profuse Thanks.

That exercised my rather arthritic broadband connection

Much listening to do - much appreciated that you took the time to upload and post detailed info.
So much great music.

Someone posted a very nice Charukeshi of BP on esnips a few months back ?
There is also a nice little video clip of him doing some great meends and harmonic plucking in Bilashkhani Todi during a mike test on Patrick Moutals site

Wow. I'm not really sure what else to say!

Ragamala, thank you for sharing these rare recordings. I'm a big fan of Bhupali and this recording of it is just beautiful. The use of harmonics... amazing (a greatly over-used word, I know, but not in this case).

Spoutmouth, you're so right when you say 'much listening to do'. It really is never ending - but would you want it to?!

Postscript on this - from another forum I read that the Latangi I mentioned above was from a Radio France recording - date suggested is 5 March 1986. So as suspected not part of the Amsterdam concert.

I have this huge, slow RTP in Latangi by Ravikiran from the Charsur label. Sound quality isn’t top-notch, but if you’re a genius you might be able to follow the music ...

Okay, in my obsessed search for Balaram Pathak's recordings, I stumbled upon this website -

http://sarod.free.fr/

I am sure the veterans here know about it. I also found a list of recordings , supposedly an archive of some sorts ?

http://sarod.free.fr/zinEDwnldz/listeHaBo12-06-2005.txt

Quite a mind-boggling collection really! But to focus on something specific, the list mentions the following by Panditji that I haven't heard. Anyone can shed more light or even better, share them ?

Ahir Bhairav
Khamaj
Charukeshi
Puria
Rageshri
Bhairavi

Also another list at a different website mentions an LP of Balaram Pathak and Muhammed Omar.

Anyone has listened to this one ?

Take care all.

The Charukeshi on esnips was mine & there should be a Bhairavi too from the same vinyl I'd had many years. It's still there, I hope!! Enormous Toombi & it DOES look big on that!!!!!

ragamala
Many thanks for these & an entertaining meeting here in Varanasi. 8)

Thanks Trippy. Got one of them but the other one that merely says Track 1 and is accompanied by Kanai Dutt on tabla is not there any more. At least the site does not play it .

Any chance you have its somewhere still ?

That link works for me & gives me his Charukeshi. Problem downloading?

The Bhairvi should be there as I never removed it.
