The Alaap of his Bilaskhani Todi (The Inde du Nord) is incredible.
So unique and beautiful.
He does some amazing things with harmonics.
He was a very unique and wonderful sitarist.

He's my favorite sitar player outside of Nikhil Banerjee. Listening to a recording of Pt. Balaram Pathak playing Bhupali, so melodic. Just lovely.

Thanks everybody for the music of BP.
I'll just say that with the present day emphasis on speed I hear in hindustani music, the 1st time I heard BP (Bilashkhani Todi) I just thought the difference made him stand as a style apart.

Now, for his Unstandardised Fret # and arrangement [achala-that]:
I don't know if I'm chosing the right thread to post this, but on that record-sleeve I couldn't help looking at his different fret arrangement: anyone got an idea on

I moved my reply to the thread below - seems to work better there.

Anyone have the Charukeshi recording in something other than .flv file? I spent 1/2 hour trying to get it from esnips to no avail. Even resorted to booting up windows on the Mac (Oh, the HORROR!) Terrible site, if anyone has it I'd really like it....

Lars - I dumped it into my mediafire here: http://www.mediafire.com/?r4sjx0n1t2a2i

Have downloaded from esnips in a while. Just went in and it does stink now. Am going to transfer my stuff back to Mediafire and get off ensips.

(There was a typo in the url - fixed now)

Cool, Lars. Over the coming several weeks I'll be shifting back to Mediafire and adding more things. I may have some BP recordings to add but have to check the backlog. It's now on 4 computers. All scattered.
