Hey,

Anyone ever played one of these crazy Zeetar things.

I dont want to buy it, I am just wondering if anyone has tried one.
Is it actually set up like a sitar, or is it more like a modified guitar.
Just wondering.

This is a 'Rajah Zeetar': here’s some better pics:

The others I've seen were all more like this one: dark, looking like a cheap, half-size airport-gift-shop sitar, set up like a guitar.

I vaguely remembering trying to play one many years ago and being annoyed at how taut the strings were- too tight to bend, and, with the curved frets and flat jawari, terrible intonation problems.

Made in Japan around 1970, they are described as having either fiberglass or paper-mache bodies, and the decorations are, if I recall correctly, glued-on paper. They show up on eBay from time to time, mostly with broken necks or strange refinish jobs.

I cant decide whether it is hideously ugly or so ugly that its cool.
It looks really short scale. Like a guitar.
No....I decided....Its ugly.
Its over the top tacky.

Sometimes really ugly instruments can be cool.
I used to have an old 1960s Sears Silvertone guitar.
It was hideous. Ugly color sunburst top with a white Naugahyde strip running around the edge of the body.
It was made of cardboard or plywood or something equally bad.
The pickups were thin and looked like bullets or old lipstick cases.
It was very very odd.
But it sure sounded great. very unique tone.
And in the end that ugly guitar was really desirable.

I guess it is like those mutant looking Chihuahuas.
They are soooooo ugly that they are the cutest things.
