I've been studying Tabla for 5-6 years in America, and I want to further my studies in India by a renowned Tabla master. I will be going to India this August specifically to study Tabla, and I'm hoping someone has a teacher in mind that I could go to for intense studies.

Anywhere in India is alright, although I speak Hindi, so a Northern part of India would be preferred. Also I have family in Punjab if there are any famous teachers there.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You should discuss this with your current teacher. It would make the most sense for you to continue in the same tradition that you have already been learning.

Or, if you don't have a teacher currently, are they any particular tabla players that you like? Or particular styles of playing?

I agree with Shawn. You should speak to your Guru and stay with the Gharana you're currently studying under. Some one good in Punjab is Ustad Lachman Seen though.
