I am new to this forum. Is the forum almost exclusively for instrumental music?
Although there is a dhrupad section, I find almost no discussion on vocal music, especially kheyal.
Is there anyone interested in AIR recordings of D.V.Paluskar and his contemporaries? If so, I'll make an esnips account and upload them.

Does anyone have recordings of Ramesh Chandra Banerjee (other than Puriya), Gopeshwar Banerjee (other than 78 rpm), or Tarapada Chakravarti (other than published works) ?

Although the primary focus of most members here is on either sitar or tabla related issues, there are plenty of lovers of vocal music too, me included.

Looking forward to listen to your esnips folder and discussing khyal with you.

Count me in, also. There is always so much to learn. For most instrumentalists here I believe the vocal arts remain a largely un-tapped resource. Who would nor benefit from this discussion? My biggest regret is that I have so little to offer.

The one thing that has always impressed me deeply is the natural awe and esteem held by the best instrumentalists, including tabla players, of their vocalist peers and counterparts.

Ok, just give me a few days for the upload. Is esnips ok? Does anyone have anything better to recommend?

Esnips is fine but if you can, after you upload, go to "edit" and click on the "download" option to allow the files to be downloaded rather than having to juust keep listening to them on esnips. If that is ok with you!

Looking forward to this!

Sorry for the delay in uploading the music I promised.
Here is the link to my esnips folder.

http://www.esnips.com/web/abhimonyudeb-MiscellaneousMusic

It's a bit shallow at the moment. But I assure you it won't be for long.

P. S.: Please let me know if the link works or not. I have enabled downloading. If I accidentally missed enabling the download of a particular file, please let me know.

Many thanks - looks good to me, and certainly performances I haven't seen before

Wonderful. I hadn't heard the Darbari before, so that was a great treat. Nice violin sangat too. Any idea who the accompanists were?

What a singer DV Paluskar was? I always wonder what a singer he might have become had he lived more than the 30 odd years that was eventually alloted to him.

Btw the second part of the Darbari might have an error as I was able to download only a few kbs worth.

I think all of the second batch of recordings I uploaded are corrupted. I tried downloading the Jaunpuri and it didn't work. I'll upload them again tonight (I live in Kolkata).

The violin accompaniment certainly is wonderful. I don't know who it is, but I do know that Paluskar and V.G. Jog were very good friends and, of course, Jog saheb often played on Akashvani. So it may be V.G. Jog.

I've re-uploaded the 2nd batch of recordings, plus some more.
I have a few more of Paluskar (Malhar, Nand, Puriya) and then I'll go on to other artistes.
Please use the same link as before.

One more thing. Most of the forum's members probably live outside India. But is there any member from Kolkata?

Thanks for fixing those uploads and the new ones. Unfortunately you haven't enabled the "download" button on your latest work there and only a few of the clips are actually playing. The ones that are playing are the jhaptal Jaijaiwanti, the two Darbari, the Bajan and the Bageshri. The rest don't play when I try to open them.

p.s. I'm hoping that we can generate more discussions of this brilliant artist's brilliant recordings that you are sharing with us, after this latest round of postings.

I'll upload to Mediafire from now on. I'll give you the link when I'm done.

I’ve also wondered about this. Are most people on the forum non-Indians? Non-Indian listeners seem to focus a lot on sitar music.

Myself, I appreciate a good sitar album as much as the next man, but the sarod is where I draw the line!
