I have a one-piece Hemen sarod for sale, which you can see at

For the cognoscenti, the sarod is one-piece, even though it has spiral pegs
rather than lotus/rose ones.

My understanding is that this sarod was made in the late 60s or early 70s for
sale through the Ali Akbar College. This was a time when Hemen himself made
the sarods, and the ones made for the college were checked by Ali Akbar Khan
himself, so all such sarods were typically of excellent quality, even if they
weren't intended as top-grade professional instruments.

This particular sarod does not disappoint in that respect - it has a sweet,
intimate sound, made nicer by the aging of the wood over the last 40 or so
years.

This sarod would make an excellent instrument for learning, as it currently
stands, and would probably make a good semi-professional instrument. If the
head is changed, and possibly the fingerboard replated, it would likely become
a satisfying professional instrument.

I have been using this sarod as my learning instrument, and I am selling it
only because I now have a new custom-made concert-quality sarod from Hemen's
shop.

I am looking to sell this at $1200, or the best offer I can get, and it is
available for pickup only in the San Francisco Bay Area. It comes with a hard case, and of course, a jaba.

Please contact me by private message if interested.
