Hi guys,

Is it just me or the neck of this sitar looks slightly tilted to one side?

Looks titled to me, although I could be very wrong as I'm very new to Sitar. But, I know stringed instruments and I know that a titled neck can't be good

No, it's good.  It's that way by design.  Looks like it's in progress.  Who is making it?  From Miraj?

A little to the left or right (if left handed) is normal. That one is quite angled but *if* it's made right should be no problem. It's an Uluberia structure probably one of the Dadpur makers.

Thanks! That one's from Miraj.
Is there any affect on sound or playability if the neck is tilted like that?

It is thought to be of benefit in playability.  It's intentional.  Many, many sitars have necks angled like this, although this one is more than typical.

I could be wrong, but I remember this being for increased meend range up the neck.
Up high you can eke out just a little bit more meend high on the neck.

All of my sitars have a tilt toward the bass side.

Ok, many of the Miraj makers use Kolkata bodies....

How do you tell the difference between Miraj and Kolkata sitars?
Also, how is the sound quality different?

playing with alot of thumb pressure over decades will also cause a neck to veer
