I'm so glad you enjoyed his performance. Me too. Above all I thought his obvious love of playing shone through at Ahmedabad. Like you say, no frills, just marvellous down to it stuff. And the audience loved him. If he isn't up there at the top or isovershadowed by others from his tradition it's a serious case of being underrated. All power to his elbow.....

The Hanuman Temple, Varanasi. The lunar calender meant the 5 day concerts were scheduled from the 3rd to the 7th of april rather than the end week. That's how I got to see &, with special permission from the Big Boss, a Mr Mishra, I got to make videos. All the pics are from my videos although I didn't video every act on each night.

Hi Nick - I'm really interested to know what you thought about Nishat. From recent posts I think neither of us had seen him for years - I'm hoping your reaction was as positive as mine, how was it for you?

No, I hadn't seen him actually in concert for many years although I got my teacher's recording from last year's Varanasi concert with Irshad & their father Ustad Imrat Khan.

I thought he was marvellous & far more traditional & inventive than Niladri Kumar on the following night. 8)
No recourse to strange antics on stage either. :wink:
