A lesser known Beatles song that featured sitar and other indian instruments.

I was watching the Concert for George Harrison, and Anouska Shankar does a nice cover with Jeff Lyn (of ELO) on vocals.. take a look:

One of my favorites. The wiki writeup on it is good, it is notable for lacking the "usual" north indian sitar, tamboura, and tabla. Bit more South Indian in flavor. Aashish Khan and Hariprasad Chaurasia, among others, recorded on it.

It may be a weird perception but I feel like khammaj thaat seems to loom large in Pandit Ravi Shankar's sound and those of his disciples (I also realize, late, that the "loom large" line was subconsciously borrowed from George in Hard Days Night, about Ringo's drums..."they loom large in his legend"). A number of George's Indian-style songs were khammaj in flavor, and I've heard a large number of khammaj based perfomances by PRS and his daughter. Wonder if its a gharana thing.

Macca said 'ignore the Indian music side & just listen to the lovely melody'.

Just heard he didn't do too well on the Olympic Games Opening this weekend.
