Does anyone here have contact information for Tara Bir Singh ?

He is an excellent sitar player , lives in Nepal , I met him many years ago in Calcutta.
I hope he is ok after this devastating earthquake. Please pm me if you know anything.

Thanks.

Here is a very nice Madhuvanti played by him :

After the catastrophic earthquake rain has set in, the airport is closed, there are cracks in the runway, relief flights have been suspended and aircraft turned back, there are millions of people in the open, no electricity anywhere, this is tragedy beyond belief.

The population of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur alone is more than 3 mio. , they are all outside and it is raining. No power means no pumps and no water. 4.5 aftershocks every half an hour.

I can't believe what I am seeing. I know Nepal well , bought my first sitar in Kathmandu.

Max I'm praying for your friend and all those affected by this devastating disaster.

Please - everyone say a prayer in whatever way you choose - to protect the survivors, comfort the injured & those whos have lost family & all they hold dear, and welcome the departed to eternity.

emergency relief donations:
I just talked with a friend who has decades of NGO/ foreign aid consultant experience in Nepal. He recommended Oxfam, CARE,Red Cross as reliable organizations that can help a lot, not neccessarily in that order. It's easy to go to any of their websites to make a donation with a credit card, or phone them. Any amount helps.
this is a really awful disaster and it is desperate that aid gets going immediately before the monsoons start in Nepal......please forward this to anyone you know who is concerned about this disaster.

I wish to urge everyone to please donate generously - every bit helps!
I just heard from my good friend in Nepal: he lost a relative, his village home was destroyed, his brother's apartment in Kathmandu was destroyed.

Tara was my first sitar teacher. I got in touch with him last year through Lasataye
here on Youtube. He hasn't yet responded to my emails after the quake, I am hoping and praying for his and his family's safety.

wonderful to hear he is OK... quite amazingly, everyone I know in Nepal escaped injury, but so many others were not so fortunate.

THAT is great news.
And like coyootie I can only stop to think about those who didn't make it.
Tara bir Singh lives to play on - now his instrument will play with the voices of those who are gone -
they will sing the chorus behind him.
For his land ... His people ... His heritage.

Thanks nikhilwannabe for this wonderful news. It brings hope.

Aftershocks are still continuing on a scale of between 4 to almost 5, the last one 4.9 just a few hours ago.

Got a mail from Tara Bir Singh and spoke to him on the phone, he and his family are ok. He has moved back to his house after living in a tent for weeks.

Somebody fix up some gigs for him please...
