What do you make of this instrument.
It is a mix of Sarod, and veena.

cool, a sarod wth a sitar tabli- looks like its played with a sarod type jaba? wonder how that works with a sitar type jawari bridge, hmmmm.
the sursringar is played with a little wire jaba sorta like a sitar mizrab set in a flat gob of resin, but it permits da-ra type strokes easily.
dunno that it's really so different from a sursringar, except it has tarafs whereas a sursringar doesn't. interesting! sure would like to hear one of these, got my curiosity up at least!

There are sound clips on the site it came from.
Go to http://shekharborkar.com/
click on the fourth menue item down. "Praashekh and Abhishek"
and then go to the bottom of the page.
There are demo files.

This looks great! It's a variation on sarod I've been sort of musing about - I'd love to give it a try.

It does have some differences from a sarod.
The tabli is wood as opposed to skin.
There is a Jawari Bridge for both the main strings and the sympathetic strings.
That must change the sound somewhat.
Might sound really interesting.

The clip works fine with IE, I had problems with Firefix, though.

So it's basically a sarod with a tabli and jawari bridges, but that's a pretty significant difference in construction.
I liked the way it sounds in the clip (even though I'm not too sure about the clip itself).
