Greetings, all. A good friend in Chicago has current possession of Gaurav Mazumdars prototype Karasek Sound kharaj sitar which he is now putting up for sale. It's a beauty if I do say so myself. Here's the link :

Very nice Tony! what is the exact difference between this prototype and the one he is using now (or the one that you are making now for him)?
And what are the specifications in dimension that are different from other sitars? (not talking about the decorations but only construction and dimensions).

If it would have a slightly shorter scale neck (for the D tuning) I would have seriously considered this one.

Hi, Barend. This beastie is full size plus a little extra. Gaurav was going for the Ravi Shankar Woodstock - Monteray machine specs. Nearly got it too ! Something didn't click with it. You'd have to ask Gaurav. I will next time I see him. This sitar has all the bells and whistles and sounds truly grand. The second one has a different carving design and as I recall, the tabli on this one is 1/2" wider. Here's the link for number 2 :

The one now in the works "#3" will be quite different as I'm making it from scratch here in my basement work shop. The internal layout is the primary difference from the earlier instruments. Much stronger ! ! !
