Just curious how many Sitar players are in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I live in Los Gatos.

Anyone want to share where they live?

Also, I would be interested in knowing of any upcoming sitar concerts or events that I could attend. Thanks!

Cheers!

Hello sitarkatz,

We are lucky to have several venues for Indian Classical Music in the Bay Area:

The Ali Akbar College of Music is located in San Rafael and usually puts on several concert series each year.

The Sangati Center in San Francisco is another great place to see ICM, offering concerts all year long, sometimes several each week. Sitarist Partha Bose will be playing this Friday, November 13, with Indranil Mallick on Tabla.

Basant Bahar also offers concerts:

If you join the emailing lists for these organizations you can be alerted to upcoming events. If you go and you like the experience I would encourage you to become a member of any of these organizations. You will usually receive discounts on concerts and support a great cause at the same time!

I don't know the number of sitarists in the Bay Area but you may meet sitarists and other musicians in the audiences at these venues.
