I've sorta mentioned this in a previous post but.... I will be spending a bunch of time in Varanasi in late August and September and want to buy a really nice sitar.

I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations as to what shops/makers I should visit?

THANK YOU!

I'll get my shop cards ready to give you better details of the places I know & regularly go to.
If you don't call or get through, I'll list them all here.

you can make a search and get the information. But anyway:
There is Nitai. near the post office of Jangambari (not far from Gaudoliya).
There is the shop of Radha Krishna Sharma on the way the laxa, in front of the new mall. A bit further on the same road, there is the shop of Radheshyam, (very good quality of sitars but very expensive).
The are many shops in the Alley which is called 'Bengali Tola'. Some of them are good some are bad.

The prices a very flexible, go alone and check carefully. Don't buy on the first day, nor on the second. Have patient. In Varanasi, there are many people that can help you but also many others that just want to rip you off.
