As my previos posts indicate, I'm in need of a new sitar. So far I've looked at possibly getting a Karasek sitar, or the Shahid Parvez style from Kalakendar. At most I think I can spend $2000 cdn on it. So, any suggestions?

I like the RR tun. The KL sitar, I played one of those a while ago at houseofraga. It was decent, but not a life mate.

Looking at the sexy beasts that come from tonyk these days, I would go for one of his. Sitarsetc is good too. You could do worse eitherway.

I told you my opinion already, but no one else replied

IMHO.

what about the pro black sitar from Sitar School of Toronto?

http://www.sitarschool.com/indianmusicstore.htm

dont tell me they are trying to sell lemons ? or are these just mid level starter Sitars?

I would think that since you are buds with Shahid Parvez he would be able to hook you up? no? no hook up from Anwar either?

Being the musician that you are, it sounds like you are in a very tough spot as kalakendar is the only place you can actually play before you buy and Im sure you value the fact that buying an instrument for this amount of money without being able to play it first is an anxiety attack waiting to happen.
why not just go to kalakendar, play it and let your fingers do the buying, if it doesnt call your first and last name, than take a drive to sitarsetc. For the cost of shipping, you could rent a car.

whatever you do, dont even consider house of raga!

I actually got my nice sitar through paul through Anwar. But the sitar itself was great, the bridge was probably the worst I've ever seen in my life. So whoever this secret sitar maker of SSOT makes great bodies, but really bad bridges. Plus, I still have to pay off the one that was stolen to begin with. And if I go through Ustadji, who knows when it would come as we don't live next door to eachother and don't know how I could arrange that. i think I might go with an anonomous person who's offered me a great sitar at a good price. Now, i just have to wait for the insurance refund................

I have to agree with the Karasek recommendations. Mine is a joy and I've spoken to Indian nationals, and American collectors who have HR's,RR's and Tony's instruments. They all recommend them highly. (Not when they are high, I mean they like them. )
