I was able to play the flute (the one like a recorder) but have not been pursuing it as I get out of breath due to low lung capacity. I wonder if shehnai needs less air flow than the recorder.

also, how long does a reed last, in terms of hours of playing and what care does it need? I have read that it needs to soaked, etc.

Would anyone have concrete info?

I feel the Shehnai is harder to play, it may take less air but not much and takes very good embrochure to play and higher pressure. Double reeded so imagine an oboe type reed doubled one inside the other and then split on each side! So yes hard to play in my opinion and even harder to find a good one (reed especially) and I have great admiration for anyone who can play it well as it's quite beautiful in the right hands.
