You can check out Partho Sarathy's playing on the excellent DVD double 'In Portrait' about Pt Ravi Shankar. There's a small piece after the main docu on DVD 1 of a group of musicians rehearsing a piece as Pt-Ji composes.

One of my sarod students, who is also a semi-professional contra bass player, tapes on his fake nails, and it seems to work reasonably well for him. Since the sarod isn't his primary instrument and he doesn't expect to do the kind of strenuous riyaz that some of us do, he should be alright doing that.

It would be better if some AACM student answered this but I suspect it has to do with holding fake nails up against the real nail rather than glueing. I may be wrong.

I have heard from someone that a known Sarod player and a disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar - Partho Sarothy plays with his face of nail because his nails are very soft. That sounds very interesting - to curl up the fingers and play with the face of the nail.
