i agree with zenman, those prices are good guides for a brand new tabla set. i'm assuming your set is a professional quality and has no significant buzzing in the syahi. you said it has been sitting around unplayed for 4 years, which is probably not very good for the tabla. at least there's no wear and tear. the dayan shows some signs of aging though. i think a reasonable price would be be between $250 and $300. if the sound is truly superior, you should sell it in person and not online. in that case you could probably get $300-$350.

these are just my guesses, use your head. if it's a professional set, then don't sell it for less than $200 for sure. let us know how it goes.

PS: who was the pro tabla player who wanted to trade you for it?

I have a Rikhi Ram tabla set including rings, bag and tuning hammer.

I bought it 4 years ago at their shop in Delhi, it was their most expensive set.

A professional tabla player played on this set once and immediately wanted to exchange it for his set, because he liked it so much.

My question is: since I don't play on it I want to sell it, but what can I ask for it? it has hardly been played.

the only way to figure out how much to charge for it is by looking at it and playing it. none of us can help you out with the second part, but if you put up some pics on a website somewhere, post the link and we'll take a look.

It looks like a very nicely made set. Were you considering putting it up on ebay ? An OK beginner qulity tabla in the US costs about $200, and a good professional set around $400 new. That should give you some idea.

Hope that helps.
