I am very sad to say that Ustad Sultan Khan has passed away Sunday in Mumbai. He may have passed on but his contribution to music will live on.

Devastated to learn this morning that the great Sultan Khan passed away last night. One of India's national treasures is gone. As a sarangi player he was incomparable; he was a great friend to musicians everywhere and much beloved by all that played with him or had the good fortune to hear him. I had the great pleasure of knowing him as a friend. He often invited me to come when he recorded and being in his presence those times when he played counts as some of the most singularly beautiful and most treasured moments in my life as a musician. I will miss him terribly.
