I'm going to ask a somewhat unusual question. I hope I phrase this correctly, please forgive me otherwise.

Is there any bhajan one can recite for Sri Saraswati Devi that may help in improving one's Sitar playing abilities?

I am asking because I had a dear friend from some years ago -- he was short with a thin build, and he would recite shlokas of Sri Hanuman every morning, and he was extremely strong for someone of his build. Everyone who knew him swore that it was due to this bhajan he was doing every morning.

Of course I know this is for proper worship, not for self gain

Ah, you are indeed on the path.

Saraswati Goddess is the primal shakti, the vanquisher of demons........the goddess that reveals the essense of ragas and the playing of Veena and Sitar..................................pure worship means nothing without sankalpa............and you should not feel guilty of asking the goddess your object of desire...............including "moksha"...........

With the right attitude and desire you would indeed get what you want...........

just visualize and let the goddess guide your playing..............

Hi

I gather Saraswati is associated with the arts, Can you inform me what Hanumans function is?

thank you
If there are just ''six tones'' in an octave [sic] then why have frets for tones that don't exist?

Hanuman on Wikipedia

"Hanuman is the epitome of wisdom, brahmacharya, bhakti (devotion/faith), valour, righteousness and strength."

Namaste & Salaam Yaar

There's always the song/hymn
Mata Sarawati Sharada

There's 2 lovely versions of this in the film Alaap with Amitabh Bacchan & Rekha from, I think, the early 80s.

Drop me a PM if you're having trouble locating DVD or CD.

If you're comfortable with Shlokas, one of the most common is:

Yaa Kundendu tushaara haaradhavalaa, Yaa shubhravastraavritha|
Yaa veenavara dandamanditakara, Yaa shwetha padmaasana||
Yaa brahmaachyutha shankara prabhritibhir Devaisadaa Vanditha|
Saa Maam Paatu Saraswatee Bhagavatee Nihshesha jaadyaapahaa||

I can definitely relate to your request - my tabla guru taught me one of his original Saraswati bhajans right before I started college...

I've just been pointed in the direction of a site that may be of interest to you.

http://www.bhaktisangeet.com

See if this has anything for you.
Was it a mantra you were looking for more than an actual bhajan?
