Short one (it's also on Patrick Moutal's site btw), but it gives a very nice example of his playing and his use of harmonics:

Interesting video Remco.
I have never seen a sitarist play harmonics this way.
I have been doing that for years on guitar.
You can do so many interesting effects with it.
Harmonics are awesome.
I think I will mess around with this when I get home tonight.
Thanks for the interesting post.

Is there a precedent for this on sitar? Or is he going out on a limb?
Is there any reason why you cannot do this "traditionally speaking".

I've studied with Pt. Balarams' son, Pt. Ashok Pathak, for a year and a half and the use of harmonics is definitly a stylefigure of the gharana, together with their very developed way of using meend.

I know that Halim Jaffar Khan also uses harmonics a lot.

That is essentialy a classical guitar technique.
What I can not see on the video is with which right hand finger he picks the string. I see him 'dampen' the string 12 'frets' higher then the fretted note with his index/mizrab finger. But then you have to pick the note with another right hand finger and that is hard to see.

I have tried that on sitar also. But the best/loudest tone I get is when I dampen the string with my right hand thumb and then pick it with my mizrab. But that is quit a shift from your normal right hand position.
I hardly ever use it in the music though.
