Hello, how does it sound when you are tuning it...silly question (cause I dont know how long you've been playing - no offence intended) - could it be a technique issue? Any small incisions on the head (can be caused by weather changes and sometimes hard to see)? Perhaps on the underside (where we cant see it)? Just throwing out ideas until someone smarter comes and tells what the real problem may be!

Did you put any thread under the chanti/kinar? It really helped to improve the sound of my dayan.

Thank you everyone. I am still a student of this art and always hope to remain as such. No offense was taken

The quality of my syahi is great. It's the sound of the chanti that diminishes. It's a very wierd thing. My na technique is fine. It's the drum, not the Player in this instance.

Btw. How does one polish the syahi?

Thanks to all.
Best wishes

Polish the syahi with the face of your tabla hammer, making sure it is smooth and clean first...gently...., you should see it shine up a bit, don't push too hard or you will dislodge some particles....
