Hi everybody, it is has been a long time. Hope you are all well.

I have just uploaded a couple of sound clips of tabla and sitar practice ( http://www.myspace.com/rdorey ) I have been doing with and Indian girl (Anu). She is doing her master degree and the BHU (Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi).
The raga is Raga Yaman. The tabla I play is a seven inch drum (right hand one). Hated by at least one person but loved by me (she is my baby)!!!

My tihais are still very poor or non existent at all. I am working on them. Please bear with me!! Still, you can enjoy tintaal. Not so bad I think.

cheers and enjoy

Let me know if you liked it (or hated for that matter).

Shivadhyanam,
Not bad for practice, how long have you been working together? You're right, you need to nail those tihais down or make them simpler. I'd like to hear the vilambit - that's where the real sangat happens or not.
[Where'd you get the seven inch?! I want one, too!]

If he could sing, and nature to accompany him, what need would he have for an instrument?

Hi, we have been practicing together for just ove 10 days I guess. The problem with the tihais are my lack of solid internal counting (keeping the beat inside). Still dificult for me as everything I play is improvised (sometimes I play some kaidas, relas and the one or two tukras).

Trying to delve into the raga to come up with some improvisation that fits the raga plus keeping counting and coming up with decent tihais are still very difficult to me as I have just started playing accompaniment. Another 7 years should do the trick.

Playing vilambit is really tricky as she only allows me to play straight theka. Yes, vilambit feels like an art in itself. Coming up with uthans that fit the mood of the raga, showing restraint plus playing simple but sweet theka etc are a real challenge to me...hmmm I feel like a beginner again!!!

The dahina was made by Mumtaj Tabla maker in Shivala (Near Sonapura), Varanasi. If you interested in contacting him let me know.

Also have been praticing solo with Pt Santosh Mishra. His playing is simply amazing!!!! I have never heard anyone playing sarangi like him. When he plays, it feels like the heavens are singing to you!! A true master of Sarangi!!! I feel so blessed to practice with him.

Hi

Just a tip...

count, clap and recite your tehai's...it will help, if you can find or record a lahera it will also help..
