Dear Forum,

I really like the section of David Courtney's "Volume 2: Advanced Theory of Tabla" in which he writes about the physics of the instrument and explains the various overtones produced by different strokes.

Do forum members know of other books and resources that address the physics of tabla, perhaps with even more detail?

Thanks,

Allen

Great website. (Get's a little heady near the end about countable infinities and uncountable infinities.) I am curious, however, what the presence of syahi does to the vibrating drum head, and how various thicknesses of syahi create concentric "anti-nodes" in the drum head? Also, it seems like touching these anti-nodes lightly has a similar effect of isolating harmonics as does touching a guitar string lightly.

I am also looking for a closer analysis of the timbral differences between na, ta, and closed tin. I find it quite interesting.

thanks for the web page, if you know any more - please send it on.

all the best,

allen
