A little while ago I was at the AACM store and Kalyan showed me an old Naskar Surbahar they had just gotten in. I returned today to photograph it. Not often one sees a Naskar Surb.

Photos are in the link below. Just click on an image to enlarge.

Well done & lovely stuff. 8)
That taraf hole is usually BEFORE the main bridge so this is even more unusual.
You can see how Naskar's make a style of their own in ALL instruments they make.

Yes, the style is quite striking. When i saw RamSitar's Naskar surbahar just a couple of weeks after first seeing this one, there was something about the headstock joint area that immediately made me think of it. It will soon be restrung, frets polished and retied etc. Then I'll have a chance to try it out. Looking forward to it.

LOVE IT X 3 ! ! ! Haven't seen that particular badge before. Interesting location for the taraf string sound hole. The longer strings = better sound probably. Delicious design really shows off the wood. I want it ! I want it !

Do the taraf wires pass through that hole? If so, to end up anchored where?

Are they hooked on to the edge of that hole???

David, the tarafs are hooked on the edge. There is a row of "teeth" lining the top of the hole at the straight edge. Similar concept to many Kanai Lal surbahars from Murari's time.
