This 34 page PDF - 'Introduction to Indian Classical Music and Emergence of Gharanas - Chapter 1' seems like a good, brief introduction to HCM Vocal Music.

Probably not new to anyone else here, but since I have focused on sitar and am only just starting to listen to vocal music in earnest, it is helpful to me (mind you, so is the information in Sandeep Bagchee's 'Nad: Understanding Raga Music').

I wish that this link gave an author for the chapter, but it does not, and I cannot seem to manipulate the link to get any more information.

I would really like to access other chapters from this, too.
