What’s a good way to practice paltas? For example, I’m working on the big collection of paltas in Josh Feinberg’s method book, pages 26 – 29. Should I be mastering these one at a time, cranking up the speed? Block out an hour and just play all of them at one speed? Something else?

Neil Sorrell and Pt. Ram Narayan's excellent book "Indian music in performance: a practical introduction" (http://chairwise.org/sarangi/text/sorrellnarayan1.pdf) has a good discussion on palta practice on pages 70-91.

Links to all pdfs and audio files can be found here: https://sarangi.info/2007/02/17/indian-music-in-performance-a-practical-introduction/

great question!
Start with 2,3,4,5 akshara (stroke) first and practice them slow and crystal clear most of the other fancier ones are based on these building blocks
consult your teacher to check your fingering and bol to make sure you arent sweeping things under the rug. if you dont have one check the teachers section of this amazing forum. there are quite a few of us available via skype including myself
good luck!
