Hi,

I would like to know how to correctly perform pakhawaj taa (thappi).
Is it played more with whole fingers (especially ring and middle) on the chat+sur (upper half of skin) and not so much on the syahi?
Is the muting done before or after (one matra after) the stroke?
I was trying several options and find out that I get similar sound to taa by hitting chat+sur with more weight on middle+ring finger with hand a little bit forward and higher than din stroke, but I don't get the muting part or how much you play this stroke on the syahi (more fundamental sound, din/tun sound).

Unfortunately, there is no video of pakhawaj strokes performed slowly and "didacticaly" :-(.

Thanks

Ales

Also, you may want to go to youtube.com and search for ed pias. I think he has a video up that shows how to play that ta.
