So my friend has this old sitar that needs some repair. Thought you guys would like to check out some photos. For me, this was a good excuse to finally start a Flikr account!

Very cool old sitar.
Shame about the cracked off headstock.
I love the Kanai Lal style Makara head.

The carving on the tabli is really cool too.
It actually looks quite clean and nicely carved.
I also like the slim bone thumb rest pieces at the base of the neck.
They are quite subtle and sexy.

That really is a nice old piece and could be fixed up. The condition that the gourd finish is in is suprising given the age, I'd suggest you have it fixed up and the KL style headstock is pretty unique actually. Thanks for sharing.....

thanks for the comments/info about the sitar. We know nothing about it really. I'm primarily a tabla player but have recently started practicing sitar on a regular basis. I was considering buying this instrument if it could be repaired. I'm fortunate enough to live just a few hours from Tony K., so there may be hope for this beautiful instrument!
