Namaskar everybody,

I just acquired a sarangi from a friend who had it in decoration,
he bought it in a village in India few years ago and it looks quite old and used.
I would like to know if it is worth it to repair, because i don't know if it is
just a simple or a proffessional one.
I know old indian instruments are usually very good if they are well preserved
but here i'm not sure for this one:

Thanks for your advices

- It is very old sarangi subjected to many weather changes
- It is repaired by some raw craftsman without much knowledge of sarangi
- Most probably it is not played by professional person
- Need more pics - one of bottom & one of back side(close up) of the finger board to come to conclusion.

Thank you for your quick reply Dr Kashyap,

As i thought it was'nt repaired by a proffessional sarangi maker,

here is some more pictures:

Do you know if it has any value for a sarangi collector?

Thanks again

-Sarangi must be about 70 yrs old & must be playing well sometimes.
-There are many dangerous twists & cracks.
-things are joined at bottom as well as at the junction of finger board & upper part.
- you can check for further cracks if some 'material' is pasted to make the surface even or decoration (?) is done to cover the damage.
- one of the upper square bridges is inverted (thats why from some unexperienced person)
- Main bridge is new. Older ones were really better.
- It may have some collector value but for restoring it to semiprofessional level may require lots of skilled work. Don't be under the effect of merchants.
-Hope this helps
