Just come back from Kolkata where I picked up my new sitar made for me by Barun (Hiren Roy's son)
It really is beautiful to play...fret alignment is perfect!

Here's a clip of it

Sounds very very nice and I really like your playing, Mayer. My favorite sitar of all I have owned in the past 43 years is my current Barun KP #1 made around 1999. It went unplayed until I got it in 2006 and broke in beautifully. Smoooooth. Have had a chance to see some of Barun's latest and they are really beautifully made and sounding instruments. He just seems to be getting better.

Nice clip Jon! Glad you got a good one from him.....sounds great. The recording sounds a lot like Amit Roys sound, what did you use to record with?

Very nice sweet playing! Beautiful sounding sitar in very good hands.
I've also been reallly impressed with the most recent sitars I've seen from Barun, there is just something about that thick rich woody tone, and solid neck that can't be beat.

This is actually my second sitar made by Barunda, he made me one back in 1999 which is equally beautiful to play.
So now I have:
1990 - Naskar (which I installed a double sided pickup to) (GP style)
1999 - Hiren Roy (Barun) Kharaj
2016 - Barun Roy Kharaj

That's it...no more!!! Or my wife will kill me!!

I used an AKG C414 to record this clip.
Had a listen to Amit Roy which I must admit have not heard of before!!! Very nice player indeed!
