So...I have two wonderful professional sitars, my Guru ji’s family have been buying from their local maker in Kolkata for generations, and although they don’t have a label I believe they’re of very good quality. I’m going to Delhi and Kolkata this coming January, and I definitely want to look around for a professional Vilayat Khan from a good maker. The names I’ve heard are (of course) Rikhi Ram and Hiren Roy Radha Krishna etc I’m looking for some advice on purchasing one. I prefer Viyalat Khan style, non plastic jawari/bridge and don’t want to spend much more than $2,150 US. Can I get a well made, at least medium decorated sitar from a good maker for that price? It will definitely be the last sitar I buy for a good while so I can pay a bit extra for sound quality.
