Anyone know this guy, says he made this instrument. If so, I'm quite impressed, there are a few stills of it in the video.

His name is Chris Doddridge.
I did a little googling and apparently he is an English Luthier who makes Lutes and Early guitars.
According to the video he did make the Veena himself.

I have to say that the closeup details reveal a truly beautifully made instrument.
Awesome intricate inlays and carving.
Sounds pretty great too.
Those toombas are HUGE.
I say well done Chris Doddridge.

I bet if more great western luthiers tried their hand at making indian instruments, they would create truly stunning instruments. It might take a while to figure out the secrets to a good sounding sitar, but I bet they would figure it out pretty quickly and maybe even improve a thing or two.

Of course the downside is that the instruments would cost $20,000.

Well, it's fantastic really and I'm impressed, I think a sitar might be a little harder to make given the tabli but I"ll bet this guy could do it. Never heard of him before now.

Did you see that he also built a surbahar?

Both instruments are danged impressive. His vin has a decidedly Dagarbani sound. I love the placement of the high chikari peg on the surbahar!

Just for fun I took some screen shots to showcase some of the nice details on this Veena.
Pics are not great but good enough.
Just click the link below.

The frets are interesting.
He does not use the usual frets on individual stands.
He seems to have referenced the Saraswati Veena for how to attach the frets.
Is there a precedent for making the Rudra Veena frets in this way?

Anyhoo, it is a beautiful instrument.
Well done Mr. Doddridge.
