Hi i'm new to this site so thought i'd introduce myself..

Well im 25 from London and have started learning the tabla for the last 8 months or so.

I'm hoping i am with the right teacher, is there any tips on what i should look for to be sure im being taught the right way.

Romeo~ Romeo, wherefore art thou? Thou shouldest hangeth out in the tabla section and you could inquire there.... 8). There's plenty of history-threads to check out, as well.

You don't say who your teacher is & where you're learning!!
Is it at the Bhavan school in West Kensington?
