What is a mukada? How does one go about
creating these in the various taals? Your
ideas,examples, etc will be helpful.

Tks.

One place to start is on this very website itself! Check out ...

While David's example is a simple one, they can be a bit more complicated when they contain a tihai as well. In that case it's called a mukra tihai. For example (from Jerry Leake's book):
Quote:
dha...................dhin..................dhin................dha
dha...................dhin..................dhin................dha
dha....................tin....................tin..................ta
tete kata gadi gine dha ------- tete kata gadi gene dha ---- tete kata gadi gene | DHA!

Hi,

These are ten Mukhadas that come from David Courtney's
"Learning The Tabla Vol. 1." with accoompaning CD. (Excellent for beginners). But the first five are also in David's "Fundamentals of Tabla".
He say's a Mukhada may be thought of as a small embellishment ending on the Sam. These are in Tintal.
The first one is written out with Tali and Khali included
and the rest are starting from their respective vibhags, so I won't have to write them all out. Besides the main Tintal Theka, they may be played with all other Theka variations, slow, medium or fast. ~Babaluie
