Hi all.

My sitar is producing an annoying buzzing sound on the Ma string, which seems to be coming from the nut. Its particularly noticeable when fretted at the low Pa fret, and at the high Ma. Pretty sure its not fret buzz, and its unlikely to be the jawari since that's protected by a film of stiff plastic... Has anyone had a similiar issue? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Cheers

I would most likely recut the slot on the back side - that is, hit the slot with a micro mini hack saw blade so that the slot is angled lower on the peg side than the fret side. Lowering the slot is NOT the idea unless you feel that is needed. This works great on the chikari posts as well. A solid contact of string to nut or post at the point it departs on its way to the bridge is a good thing.
