Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or thoughts about keeping one's hands in playing shape through a long day. I typically practice 1.5 hrs in the morning before work, but then work in a job that involves lots of screen and typing time (i.e. using the forearm and finger muscles needed for tabla). Between that and sometimes to the gym, if/when I come back to tabla in the evening my fingers feel totally dead and I can't really play anything even close to my morning speeds, making me wonder if it's even worth trying to play. Are there things I can do, or should I just do more mental and slow sur practice in the evenings?

Yours in riyaz,

I suggest you notify your employer of this WITHOUT mentioning about the tabla.I am assuming you are not self employed. The Employer might refer you to an Occupational injury dept . You might have subtle signs of carpal tunnel syndrome. Doubt arthritis which is usually opposite - morning stiffness that improves as the day goes on.
