The goddess Annapurna Devi is the goddess of Nourishment and consort to Shiva.
She is also the Supreme Goddess of the city of Varanasi.

Annapurna Devi, the musician, was originally named "Roshanara Khan".
When she married Raviji she converted to Hinduism and changed her name to Annapurna.

The origin of Goddess Annapurna is related to the mythological tale of Lord Brahma and Vishnu being worried about the extinction of food from earth resulting in perishing of many human beings. These gods pleaded to Lord Shiva who invited the goddess Annapurna to earth and begged for food from her. Lord Shiva distributed the food received from the Devi and since then promised her that she should continue to nourish the people of earth and in turn he would give moksha to the people of Kasi where the goddess resides.

This was supposed to be a bit of a joke about this divine musician with the divine name. Sorry for the confusion.

Ha ha ha.
Oh well, sometimes our typed intentions are misunderstood.
I will agree that Annapurna Devi is a divine musician.
I am jealous of the many great musicians who have been able to study under her.
Although she keeps to herself and does not perform publicly, she has always had time to teach worthy students.

I personally wish she had recorded at least ONE time with good sound quality.
Listening to her through the distortion, noise, and warbling tape can be frustrating.
You want so badly to hear it clearly.

C.W. ~ I wish to the Universe as well she had recorded ONE piece that is not "distorted" ~ even with that "distorted" piece floating around you can "hear" the magic she was weaving ~ but you could not "feel" it because of the sound quality.
