I am a new tabla player. I have learnt taals and have practiced kaidas with the help of Lehras. It's okay to play Lehra and practice taals but I would also like to play with varying instrumental music played at Madhya Teental and Ektal. It is very hard to find such pieces online. I searched Google for Sitar Recital in teental , Santoor recital in teental etc. but whatever comes up always has tabla with it. Where would i be able to find pieces that are purely one instrument so I can practice my tabla skills with some exciting tunes? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Turn on to a country music station. That's your 16 beat. Anytime I'm in the car I recite the Kaida and play when I get home.

You can modify those melodies as per your requirement and loop them to practice along with that.
