Friends,

A long-time friend of mine asked me to sell his Mangla Prasad Sharma sitar for him, but I'm not sure how to begin. I've had it in my hands for a while now and I am enjoying it enough to buy it from him myself, but I'm thinking he deserves more than what I can afford to offer. The first question I have is what would you suppose this sitar is worth in USD?

I can't recall when my friend received this sitar, but I believe it was more than ten years ago. Time flies!

Thanks In Advance,
Allen

I'll bet it's sounding nice now, he made thick tablis! He also had a worker there at one time that was quite talented, probably the one that did the carving. I'd say $800 to $1000, it looks to be in nice shape. It says it came via Haribhau Vishwanath but the case looks like Mid-East?

Thanks Lars.

The tabli does produce a very pleasing sound: solid, mellow, responsive with great sustain. My main sitar is a lot louder but duller with less sustain. I'm going to assume the thickness of the tabli is a big variable between the two sitars, so I'm a new believer in thicker tablis!

I appreciate the quick feedback!
