I had bought an Hemraj Sitar and would like to know details about this beautifully designed instument. Is Hemraj a place in India? and also the leaves on the base below the neck, what kind of leaves are they. I bought my Sitar from Kala Kendar and it sounds awesome too.
Thank You.

That leaf design IS the Hemraj design. It is an old design going back to, I think, the 19th century (if not older). I think Tony K (sitarfixer) may have the skinny on Hemraj.

The rudra vin I had made from Tony features the Hemraj design quite prominently. You will also see it on tanpuras. I assume the leaf design is similar to my vin?

Yes, thank you. That's the design in the picture you posted. However does anyone know what Hemraj means or what the leaves are called? I would post my Sitar but I'm not to computer literate to do that, but the picture on the Kala Kendar site shows pretty much the Kharage Sitar I bought. Thanks.

Hi Johnny6950,

Figure I should jump in here...

Glad to see your enjoying your sitar. The sitar you own was built in Miraj, India by Bashir (BM Sitarmaker).

and here are those pics you wanted to post.
