Depending on the surbahar a general range is G, G# or A for Sa.

Sitar is usually C# or D. This would be much too high for a surbahar and would result in the broken strings.

The tuning of the strings are the same as sitar. You just need to lower the Sa from C#/D to between G-A.

Main string (bajtar) = Ma
Second (joditar) = Sa
Third string (pancham) = Pa (or ma or dha etc depending on the raga)
4th string (deepest bass) = Sa

Is your surbahar 7 or 8 strings on top?
