Guided Listening Session on Ustad Habeebuddin Khan, conducted by Pt. Sudhir Mainkar. At 6:30pm on Thursday 24th May 2012 at the Godrej Theatre, NCPA.

From their website (http://www.ncpamumbai.com/event/nad-ninad-from-our-archives-guided-listening-session-habeebuddin-khan):
Quote:
This is a programme that makes available to lovers of Hindustani music some of the archival recordings of the great masters of the past. This month, it’s the music of the late Tabla maestro Habeebuddin Khan. Sudhir Mainkar, an eminent scholar-musician and respected Guru in the world of Tabla, will conduct this session.

Son and disciple of the Ajrada maestro Shammu Khan, Habeebuddin Khan saheb also trained with stalwarts from various other schools: Natthu Khan of Delhi gharana, Munir Khan of Laliyana gharana, and Ali Raza Khan of Lucknow gharana. With equal command over solo repertoire and techniques of accompaniment, Habeebuddin Khan was regarded as one of the best exponents of Ajrada gharana. He was especially known for having an exceptional command over the Bayan (the larger of the drum pair constituting the Tabla) and a vast repertoire leading to an immense variety in his solo performance.

Admission: On a first-come-first-served basis.
