Hi, new to Sarod and using George Ruckert's book The Classical Music of North India.

I know a great deal of you must have used this book at one time so here is a specific question I hope is not too dumb of me to ask.

On page 45 Bhairav:

The Tans 8 through 20 start on Sam but only go 10 beats long before picking up to the Gat which is a 3 beat pick up before Sam making the Tans plus beginning of Gat add up to only 13 beats long which would not reach Sam in Teental. Where are the other 3 beats?

Please be patient with me, I hope this is not too obvious an answer.

Thanks.

Hey sam-i-um,
As it says in the book you literally go back to the Gat, in this case the 11th beat. So those Tans end with the phrase " Sr Gm P" and then back to the beginning of the Gat on the 14th beat. When notation suggests you go back to the Gat it doesn't necessarily mean the beginning of the Gat.
Hope that helps.
