fot_4th.jpg This is to let everyone know that the new edition of "Fundamentals of Tabla" is now out. For now, it is only available at Amazon.com at:

http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Tabla-David-R-Courtney/dp/1893644065/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382362420&sr=8-1&keywords=9781893644069

This has been out of print for nearly two years. In that period the 3rd edition often sold for many hundreds of dollars due to its scarcity.

This is the 4th edition and it is greatly improved.

Peace

David Courtney

Thanks David
Just a question . The front cover of the new edition (4) you posted says -The Complete reference to Tabla-Vol 1. Just wondering if there are more volumes in the making ?

Yes. Volume 2, 3, and 4 are unfortunately out of print. Vol 5 is partially written, and 6, and 7 are just in my mind at this point.

Peace

Hi David,
Just curious about what Volume 5 (and possibly 6 and 7) will be focused on.

1) Fundamentals, Theka, Prakar
2) advanced theory, spectrum analysis, stagecraft
3) Manufacture and repair
4) kaida
5) Cyclic forms
6) Cadential forms
7) History

At least that's the plan. I may not live long enough to see it through though.

Thanks - looking forward to them. If you are worried about not having enough time, you just need to pick up the "laya" a bit :-)

Wow, just saw the prices on Amazon for the out of print copies...incredible. No wonder my last copies I had of them were popular.....good luck with the new versions!

For people living outside USA, getting books and DVDs with shipping + customs is usually extremely expensive.
It was very hard for me to get "Learning the tabla" 11 years ago from Spain, it was my first contact with the world of Tabla.

Please David consider doing eventually a digital or at least a Kindle edition of all your material, many people me included would be glad

That was my first idea. But for a number of reasons which I will not go into here, Amazon.com was making it difficult.
