This has a number of performances, many of around 28 mins, presumably to fit into a half-hour radio format. Most came originally I think from AIR, when they used to share music online.
Wow, wow, wow! This is superb; even a lumpen Bhoopali turns unearthly in his left hand!

Fuller recordings of Mustaq Ali Khan I have are a 53 minute Bageshri, from radio, and a superb 57 minute Miyan ki Malhar from AIR in the early 50s.
Reassuring to hear such recordings are at least out there. Some day I am going to have them too.

Thanks!

I have this CD by Partho Das, Details are

JVC VICG5222, Music of the Sitar, recorded at Delhi in 1989
Bageshri 30.34, Yaman 28.36 and Bhairavi 8.30
Good sitar playing butbut not an outstanding recording, particularly of tabla.
Since this CD was released by a Japanese company it was quite unreasonably expensive. To gain popularity and national and international acceptance the new artistes would benefit if they find an Indian recording company, with good recording equipment and engineers, to produce their very best music at affordable prices. Partho does not seem to have released any other CDs since 1989. I wonder why?

I have CDs by several pomising sitar players who have released just one or two CDs and then disappered!

Hi IML,

I don't have any CD by Indrajit Banerjee. Read his profile, quite impressive. Please supply details of his CDs. I can ask a local music store to order a few copies for sell in his outlet. This way I get an opportunity to listen first in his shop before I buy. Thanks.

Indrajit is one of the best (imo)

Hi ghozm, thanks for the info. Have just them an email asking them to supply full details of each CD, including details of ragas, duration and the cost of 4 CDs including postage to UK. Have you got all these four CDs? Where did you buy them from? How much did you pay? How do you rate the music and the recording quality?

i bhought the cds from them directly. they have house concerts a couple times a month. i dont remember what i payed. somewhere between 100 and 150 rupees for each cd. not much. i have three of those cd's..

when it comes to rating cds i rate them from energy within the music. emotion and rasa. and theese guys have alot of it. the recordings are good quality also. i think it is deobrat (the son) who is arranging all the technical stuff. he is a smart guy.

I saw them once back in 2004 at this really great bookstore in the Seattle area
it was my only indian concert so far
it couldn't have possibly been any better
I admire the Mishras a great deal

I videod them both in a surbahar duet at the mid-march Dhrupad Festival in Varanasi.

' Rock'n'Roll' surbahar it was called by a local afficienado due to Deobrata's constant clashing on the tarafs & rather stacatto playing. I felt his 'style' more suited to sitar rather than this gorgeous 'beast'.

His father has a very nice touch on surbahar although I haven't heard them both on sitar yet.
On my next visit to Varanasi in 2007.

the mishras are awesome, best live show i've seen (along with zakir...)
so much energy flowing...it was unreal

they even gave me a lesson the day after the show, theyre really nice people

as far as modern sitarists, i'd recommend Niladri Kumar
he has a cd out with kaushi kanada on it...i've never heard anyone do meends like him, the alap is incredible

Hello everyone,

I think Niladhri Kumar should be inculded in this category, have seen him live and have couple of videos. He has 2-3 CD's out.

Dharohar - bilaskhani, pilu and bhairavi is decent
Another one included Kausi kanada with vijay ghate.
