My bayan has developed an unpleasant thudding tone, with little sustain. I've never been super happy with the tone of this bayan, but over the last few months it's gotten far worse. If I go around the rim, striking it at each point, there is one region where the tone is particularly bad—completely none resonant. This suggests to me that the tension is uneven, and I've read here that that can be a problem, but I can't figure out how to adjust it to make it go away. I use dowels to adjust the tension, but no matter how much I fiddle with them, I still seem to have that dull sound in the same part of the drum.

Any advice?

Many thanks!
