So im learning a rela with a heavy emphasis on dhire dhire,but I cant seem to get the sound. I think I hear too much of a sliding sound as if im rubbing the pudi. It should be more crisp right?

dhere dhere is a very special subject/ topic in tabla.only proper placement of hand can produce the required sound.you need to put some extra 'weight' while playing dhere dhere
initially at a slow tempo(laya).eventually you'll get accustomed to it.its very hard to explain dhere dhere in words as such.

Thanks for sharing this clip deep. Very interesting point, this, emphasis on re of dhere (as opposed to dhe) and the relationship to the sur dha harmonic. Never quite thought of it like that before.
