Hello everybody

I am struggling with the popular rela phrase dhena gena. Could any body explain the fingering that they find best for this phrase. Also is there a difference between punjab and farrukhdabad gharanas when it comes to execution on the tabla??

Regards

For the Punjab vs. Farukhabad question, my teacher who has lineage in Punjab via Abbaji and Farukhabad via Ustad Keramatullah Khan, explained to me that Dhenegene is not a traditional Punjab bol. The traditional Punjabi equivalent would be Dhene Dhene. Of course, Punjab gharana artists will still play Dhenegene.

I've not heard this distinction made anywhere else, so I take it with a grain of salt since it seems there are a lot of different opinions the gharanic details. Had anyone else heard this or disagree?

I believe that your teacher should be able to help you better with this. However, you may want to take a look at http://forums.chandrakantha.com/archives/1/0525.html
