I was just wondering when and how often one should change mizrabs. I know I have used the same one for about 4 months,,cause it fits so well.
But, is there a point when they wear down? Thanks.

Do you actually have any more to try out?
Then you can see a different sound! Are all your mizrabs the same kind?

Mizrabs can be made of differing hardness qualities as can be heard if one tries many on the same instrument.

When the little darlings get wet or worse I change them -a little talcum powder and a cloth diaper is my prreferen...errr...OH!
ops:

Seriously now, I tend to retain a mizrab that is really well fitting for as long as possible. I wipe it and periodically give it a light rub with 0000 steel wool (like polishing the frets).

I DO try on different mizrabs a few times a week, though. Just to see how they are feeling/sounding. Things like changes in humidity and temperature can impact both the sitar's response and also your mizrab callouse's hardness, sensitivity etc. I try to maintain a few well fitting mizrabs of slightly different sizes to accomodate these shifting conditions.

But as far as I am concderned, I will keep a good mizrab until it starts to wear out, which can take a heck of a long time.
